Stop discriminating non-Muslims in university intakes, slams MIC

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 July: The public university intake this year was the most unfair and biased recorded for the non-Muslim students, says MIC.
MIC treasurer-general Datuk Jaspal Singh, in a statement to The Malaysian Times (TMT),  said that the intake of Chinese students has dropped from an average of 25 per cent over the years to 19 per cent this year, while the intake of Indian students is equally bad standing at a miserable four per cent of the total 41,573 who were given places.

“Why is the intake of Indian students only 1,800 this year? With the additional matriculation places, 3,000 Indians should have been given places in Public Universities,” he said.
Jaspal said students with 4.0 grade point averages were not given courses of their choice although only 442 of the 51,673 students who sat for the STPM last year achieved 4.0 CGPAs.
“These young students are the crème de la crème of the nation. We should ensure they receive the courses of their choice and that they stay in Malaysia to contribute to future nation-building.
“Instead the Ministry of Education crushes their dreams, destroys the hopes of their parents and confirms that it is pursuing the most vile  of policies,” he stressed.
“I received a call from a Mr.Baldev Singh, a staff in PDRM, whose daughter, Armeetaa Kaur, had been offered psychology instead of her choice of dentistry. Despite his meagre salary, Baldev ensured that his daughter had all that she needed to do well in her studies.

“The joy that his family felt when their daughter received a 4.0 flat for her matriculation is now gone. They cannot afford to send their daughter to a private university,” he said.

Jaspal said that the MIC’s Higher Education Bureau has received complaints from 10 students with 4.0 CGPAs who were not given courses of their choice.
“This discrimination against minorities must stop. The majority of Indians in Malaysia are poor.
“They sacrifice and go without to educate their children. And they are voters who heeded the PM’s exhortation to have ‘nambikei‘ (trust) in him,” Jaspal said.
Jaspal said that the issue of matriculation places for the Indian students was also equally contentious.
“The MIC fought to increase the number of seats from 300 to 1,500. This undertaking was given by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“Yet the Education Ministry appears to be playing a shell game with this intake, issuing different numbers at different times, committing to meeting the number but not actually doing so.
Jaspal said that P. Kamalanathan, the Deputy Education Minister, is a part of this deceitful trickery, issuing yesterday the hypocritical statement that matriculation is for all races.
“Kamalanathan would do well to remember that he is there as the representative of MIC and the Indian community, not to cover up for the MOE.
“I call on the Prime Minister to immediately review this year’s public university intake, and to ensure that the brightest and the best of our students are accepted into the courses of their choice,” Jaspal urged.

MIC to ensure Indian Student get their 1500 place in Matriculation.

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC President Datuk Seri G. Palanivel wants the Education Ministry to ensure that Indian students get their 1500 places for matriculation courses.

If any student who was rejected even though they had scored good grades, then they should be offered a place to study matriculation said Palanivel.If some Indian students had rejected their offers to enter matriculation colleges then the others should be offered the places instead, added Palanivel.
He said a total of 6150 students had applied for matriculation for 2013/2014 intake .Palanivel said for the first intake 1500 students were offered places, but only 892 students accepted the offer.Palanivel said that during the 2nd intake, another 350 students were offered matriculation.

"I have yet to be informed on the number of students who have accepted the offer from the 2nd intake.We have sent in appeal letters to ensure that Indian students will get their 1500 places for matriculation" said Palanivel.

He added that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had agreed to increase the Indian students intake to 1500.

Matriculation fight will be a yearly issue if BN were to rule the country for many more years.

இவ்வாண்டு 2013 மெட்ரிகுலேசன் மாணவர் நுழைவு விவகாரம் இன்னும் தீர்கப்படவில்லை.நூற்றுக்கணக்கான 10ஏ, 9ஏ, 8ஏ, 7ஏ, 6ஏ எடுத்த மாணவர்கள் அக்கல்வி ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டு 7 வாரங்கள் கடந்து விட்ட நிலையில், இடம் இன்னும் கிடைக்கும் என்னும் நம்பிக்கையில் வெளியில் காத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர் என மலேசிய கல்வி சமூக விழிப்புணர்வுக் கழகத்தின் தலைவர் ஆ.திருவேங்கடம் குறிப்பிட்டார்.

இந்த நிலையில் 2014 மெட்ரிக்குலேசன் விண்ணப்பம் 1 ஜூலை 2013 முதல் துவங்கிவிட்டது.பூமிபுத்ரா அல்லாத மாணவர்கள் விண்ணப்பம் செய்வதைத் தடுக்கும் நோக்கத்தில் இணைய பதிவுப் படிவத்தில் வேண்டுமென்றே 3 இடங்களில் புமிபுத்ராக்கள் மட்டுமே இக்கல்விக்கு விண்ணப்பிக்க முடியும் என மெட்ரிகுலேசன் அதிகாரிகள் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளனர்.

பகுதி 2.0இல் Program Matrikulasi Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia merupakan program persediaan bagi pelajar Bumipetera lulusan SPM என உள்ளது.அடுத்து Kelayakan untuk memohon என்னும் பகுதியில் விண்ணப்பிக்கும் மாணவர்களின் தகுதி குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.Pemohon adalah pelajar Bumiputera warganegara Malaysia yang berumur tidak melebihi 20 tahun pada 1 Januari 2014 dan menghantar borang permohonan sebelum atau pada 10 Oktober 2013 என்னும் வார்த்தைகளில் மீண்டும் புமிபுத்ராக்கள் மட்டுமே விண்ணப்பிக்க முடியும் என நேரடியாக குறிப்பிட்டு வலியுறுத்தப்படுகின்றது. எண் 32 இறுதிப்பகுதியில் Sila pilih status bumiputera atau bukan bumiputera என்னும் பகுதியில் விண்ணப்பிக்கும் மாணவர் தானொரு பூமிபுத்ராவா இல்லையா என உறுதிபடுத்த வேண்டும்.

பிரதமர் அறிவித்த 1500 மெட்ரிகுலேசன் இடங்களை நம் சமூகம் வலியுறுத்திக் கேட்பதனால், மெட்ரிகுலேசன் அதிகாரிகள் இவ்வாறு ஆரம்பத்திலிருந்தே விண்ணப்பத் தடைகளைக் முன் வைத்து பூமிபுத்ரா அல்லாத மாணவர்கள் விண்ணப்பம் செய்வதைத் தடுக்க அல்லது குறைக்க முயற்சி செய்கின்றனர் என ஆ.திருவேங்கடம் குறிப்பிட்டார்.கல்வித் துணை அமைச்சர் கமலநாதன் கடந்த வெள்ளிக் கிழமை நடத்திய பத்திரிகையாளர் சந்திப்பில் இவ்வாண்டு எஸ்பிஎம் மாணவர்களை மெட்ரிகுலேசனுக்கு விண்ணபிக்க ஆலோசனை கூறினார்.அவர் அக்கூட்டத்தை நடத்தும் முன்பு மெட்ரிகுலேசன் அகப்பக்கம் சென்று இது போன்ற விவரங்களை அலசி ஆராயவில்லை என்பது தெளிவாகத் தெரிகின்றது.இவர் போன்ற விவரம் தெரியாதவர்கள் கல்வித் துணை அமைச்சர் ஆக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது உண்மையில் நம் சமூகத்திற்கு பெருங்குறையே என திருவேங்கடம் கருத்து தெரிவித்தார் .

இவ்வறிக்கையைப் பார்த்ததும் அதுவெல்லாம் ஒன்றுமில்லை;பயப்படாதிர்கள்; விண்ணப்பம் செய்யுங்கள் என அறிக்கைவிட கமலநாதன் நிச்சயம் தயங்க மாட்டார்.மெட்ரிகுலேசன் அதிகாரிகள் செய்யும் படுமோசமான இனப்பாகுபாட்டு அமலாக்கங்களை இவர் கண்டிக்க மாட்டார்.இதற்குக் காரணம் இவரிடம் ஓர் அதிகாரமும் இல்லை என்பதே உண்மை.

இன்று வரை இவ்வாண்டு 7 வாரங்களாக மெட்ரிகுலேசன் கல்விக்குக் காத்திருக்கும் 300க்கும் மேற்பட்ட மாணவர்களுக்கு ஒரு பதிலும் தர முடியாமல் சம்பந்தம் இல்லாத கதைகளைக் கூறிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் ஒரு பொறுப்பற்ற துணை அமைச்சரை என்னவென்று கண்டிப்பது என்று தெரியவில்லை என ஆ.திருவேங்கடம் தமதறிக்கையில் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்..

I was at Education Ministry from 2.00 to 5.30pm today (8-7-2013). En Abdul Kahar, the corporate communication division head said,“ En.Thiru dan rakan-rakan encik berlepas dalam pukul 3 petang pada hari Khamis lepas.Atas permintaan segera KSU, kami ada sedia report dan mail kepada beliau dalam masa 2 jam pada hari yang sama.”

“Itu hari saya kurang cakap dan biar deputy saya en Sharif cakap.En. Thiru ada perhatikankan? Saya terus ambil nota debat Thiru. Dua point yang en Thiru tegaskan pada hari itu adalah:
1) Mengapa En Sukur( Matrix dept) tidak cuba mengisi baki tempat kosong dalam 1500 itu dalam jangka masa di antara intake pertama dan kedua?
2) En Sukur sudah pun tahu angka sebenar tawaran yang diterima pada intake pertama.Angka itu ialah lebih 800.Dalam hal ini encik memang sudah pun tahu dengan jelas bahawa kekosongan yang perlu diisi adalah lebih 600.Mengapa pula pihak Matrix encik Sukur hanya bagi tawaran kepada 350 orang pelajar dalam intake kedua? Ini membuktikan memang pihak Matrix en Sukur tidak ada niat untuk habis penuhkan 1500 tempat seperti yang dijanjikan oleh Perdana Menteri.

Our protest and meeting with MOE on 4-7-2013, last Thursday has let to preparation of quick report to its KSU. This has further let to an emergency meeting in MOE on last Friday morning and on the same day evening Kamalanathan has called for a press conference.
As arranged, the KSU was supposed to meet Muhyiddin Yassin today for final ‘verdict’.
Until 530pm today, nobody could confirm the meeting result between them.

Sistem Pendidikan Di Malaysia Gagal.

KUALA LUMPUR: Sistem pendidikan negara harus diakui gagal dan tidak boleh dipertahankan lagi, jelas Ahli Parlimen Gua Musang Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

Jelasnya, antara lain, sistem pendidikan negara gagal dalam penyepaduan budaya antara anggota masyarakat yang berbilang kaum dan bangsa supaya saling dapat menghargai adat resam yang berbeza

Oleh itu, Ahli Parlimen paling lama berkhidmat itu mengesa satu tindakan yang ikhlas, berani dan radikal dilaksanakan segera untuk memulihkan sistem pendidikan negara.

“ Saya sedar urusan perubahan ini memerlukan masa yang lama, tetapi kita boleh mempercepatkan proses ini dengan belajar dan melihat kepada model yang sudah berjaya dan terbukti seperti yang berlaku di China, Korea Selatan dan Finland,” jelas Tengku Razaleigh.

“Kita juga gagal dalam mempersiapkan tenaga kerja mahir dan berketrampilan. Kurang lebih 20% graduan kita menganggur dan majikan, terutama dari kalangan syarikat swasta dan MNC lebih cenderung untuk memilih graduan yang dari luar sistem kita.” tambahnya.

Tengku Razaleigh berucap merasmikan Majlis Makan Malam Amal anjuran Teach For The Needs di Kuala Lumpur.

Turut hadir Ahli Parlimen Lembah Pantai Nurul Izzah Anwar dan Ahli Parlimen Serdang Dr Ong Kian Ming.

Bekas Naib Presiden UMNO itu juga turut mempersoalkan standard yang digunapakai sistem pendidikan negara yang dikatakan tidak menepati keperluan atau kelayakan minimum yang ditetapkan di peringkat antarabangsa.

Jelasnya dalam penilaian Programme for International Students Assessment (PISA) 2009, Malaysia diletakkan pada tangga yang ke 55 daripada 74 negara sebahagian besar pelajar kita yang berumur 15 tahun gagal memenuhi kelayakan minimum, dengan 60% daripadanya tidak memenuhi keperluan minimum untuk matematik, 44% dalam membaca dan 43% dalam sains.

Sementara “Trends in International Mathematics dan Science Study” (TIMSS) 2007, pula menunjukkan secara purata, 20% pelajar kita tidak menepati keperluan minimum dalam matematik dan sains.

“Anehnya, dapatan ini tidak selaras dengan pencapaian cemerlang peringkat nasional yang hampir setiap tahun dihebahkan secara besar-besaran.” jelasnya

“Apakah sistem penilaian kita rendah, tidak menepati “standard” dan tidak tepat sehingga kita cemerlang menurutnya tapi gagal berprestasi apabila berdepan dengan penilaian antarabangsa yang lebih konklusif?” tambah beliau.

Tengku Razaleigh turut menyelar sistem yang digunapakai di peringkat Kementerian Pendidikan dan Jabatan Pendidikan yang sering memberi anugerah kepada Pengetua berdasarkan keputusan peperiksaan cemerlang sekolah mereka.

Jelasnya, pelaksanaan ini walaupun berniat baik boleh membawa kesan negatif apabila terdapatnya Pengetua yang terlalu ghairah untuk “menang” dan ini boleh mengakibatkan perkembangan yang tidak sihat.

“Sebagai contoh yang ekstrim, adalah tidak mustahil bagi seseorang pelajar lemah tidak diterima masuk ke sesebuah sekolah demi memastikan prestasi akademiknya tidak terjejas.” jelasnya.
